Dec. 1-9, 2016- "Taste of Nicaragua" Using backdrop of La
Purisima festival, the team will visit and learn from workers and owners of coffee fincas in northern Nicaragua. Target team: Coffee aficionados and those interested in sustainable/socially-responsible production. It can also include generalists interested in biology, public health and even
indigenous and Latin American faith culture.
Jan. 15-25, 2017 - Theme: "Growing a Better Future" focusing on building fuel-efficient stoves, greenhouses, rain barrel irrigation systems and other projects
(with Nicaraguan worker partnership), and other public
health education promotion in Jalapa. Also includes ISLA annual public school scholarship ceremony. Target team: Farmers & gardeners, teachers, handymen and women, public health care educators and those interested in sustainable, international food issues. All ages welcome.
May 15-26 -Theme: "Nursing education through personal and inter-cultural connections", including students from Northern Idaho College and Lewis and Clark State College (Idaho.)
July 17-27 - Theme: "Healthy Family Values in a Multicultural World" - A family themed
trip for all ages - combined with UMD med students - all exploring Jalapa's
opportunities for personal educational interchanges and hands-on experiences e.g.
housecalls & clinic observations, intercambios, sporting events. Target team: Young
families, UMD med students and spouses/friends.
